Andy Spittle is a talented children’s book author and illustrator based on the Mid Wales/ Shropshire border. Combining heartfelt storytelling with vibrant and engaging watercolour and mixed media illustrations, Andy creates imaginative worlds that capture the curiosity and wonder of childhood. Specialising in picture books and young fiction, Andy is currently developing three original children’s book projects. Paisley’s Explanation

‘Paisley’s explanation’ is a spread from Andy’s latest Picture book project called Paisley and the Plesiosaur. This spread depicts an attempted communication between the central characters, Paisley and Spike the Plesiosaur. The playfulness in this scene is evident and shows the developing relationship between the two characters.

The project evolved as many do from a creative sketchbook session and was then put down before being revisited. This allowed Paisley and the Plesiosaur to grow and develop their personality and heart.

Sketchbook work

‘First Hooman’ is a work-in-progress sketch of a wolf-like dog inspired by the relationship between man and his best friend. This is a prime example of an initial idea character design sheet that Andy uses to start the process of bringing a book to life.

This particular sketch has formed a new idea that Andy is currently working to develop into a picture book project, so watch this space….
